The West Carling Association held an All Candidates Meeting on Thursday, September 1 at the Carling Community Centre from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. The following candidates were in attendance: Candidates for Mayor Candidates for Councillor Gary Bauer Al Doubrough Lis McWalters Lisa Cook Susan Murphy Bruce Kelly Robin Plumb EJ Szyperski Pam Wing During the first segment the candidates were asked to provide responses to a series of questions that were given to them at the start of the meeting. The prepared questions were as follows: 1) Describe the changes you see happening in Carling Township in the next 10 years? What policies do you think are appropriate to maintain, or put into place to accommodate any such changes? 2) Given that 70% of Carling Township’s dwellings are seasonal, how will you keep all constituents engaged and informed on matters at the Carling Council table? Would you be supportive of electronic access to meetings for constituents and to video recordings of meetings being posted to the Township’s website? 3) How would you describe the demographics of Carling Township and how do you see them changing in the future. Given that, how would you service the population, for example, enabling citizens to “age in place?” 4) If there were a proposed addition to the infrastructure in Carling Township, how would you weigh a decision to support the project using tax revenue to build, operate and maintain the infrastructure versus the number of residents that would value and use the facility? 5) Half of the population of Carling Township that responded to the West Carling Association’s recent survey are water access only. Can you speak to their concerns and how you would address them, specifically, how will you respond to the needs of people who must have access to docking space and municipal parking space to access their property? During the second segment candidates were asked to speak to an issue that is important to them. In the final segment, candidates responded to questions from the audience. Watch it here! The meeting was videotaped and can be found here: https://youtu.be/RWbgb7xLnIE
